Special Abilities : | Its highly sophisticated audio-visual surveillance system that projects a 30 metre radius sensor probe around the A9, which forms a target identification field. The field can be used to single out a specific target or to lock onto a large number of targets for elimination. TIN combines a sensitive listening device with a heat sensing probe to locate enemies. The Floating Fortress is or was carried aboard Victory-class Star Destroyers. It was designed to augment ground assault and planetary occupation forces. The A9 is quite suitable for urban terrain. It has a well armoured body and powerful repulsorlift engines. The twin-turret is a distinctive feature on this craft. The A9 is the scourge of any Imperial occupation force, the A9 has a reputation for being mercilessly through. It is primarily used to put down uprisings in occupied urban areas, and this vehicle also address some of the logistical problems faced by the AT-AT. Being compact enough, allows the A9 to move easily between buildings of a crowded inner-core city, yet it generates as much fear and terror as the mighty AT-AT.
The armoured shell of the Floating Fortress allows it to go through obstacles as opposed to going around them, thus obliterating all that is in their path with a casual effortlessness. Whole cities have been levelled by Floating Fortresses in search of Rebels or other enemies of the Empire. The weapons move independently of each other, swinging in a slow and determined arc, until finally "locking in" on the intended target. In two piercing search beams, targeting whatever the beams focus upon.
For urban suppression, many
of the psychological weapons of war are necessary and are employed by the
A9. The TIN system was modelled after a sensor package once employed by
assassin droids. The TIN system is not exclusively used to located enemies,
often a mission will call for the display of power with a minimum of actual
destruction. In these cases, the TIN system can be used to pinpoint an
exact target without causing undo havoc. The sensor chief is the person
who monitors the TIN. A rivalry of sorts does exist between the crews of
Floating Fortresses and AT-ATs. While the Imperial Army command prefers
the AT-AT, occupational commanders constantly demand Floating Fortresses
when garrisoning a planet.
