The Rebel Armoured Freerunner gets its name from the freely rotating gun platforms mounted on the top of the craft. The platform was designed to accommodate various weapon types, according to the specific requirements of the owner. In its original advertizing campaign by the now defunct Kelliak Arms and Armor Company, the Freerunner was the "ultimate in fast, flexible firepower," allowing the owner the "freedom to meet any combat situation with the appropriate countermeasure". Neither the vehicle nor the advertizing campaign appealed to the Imperial Military and as a result, KAAC sold their entire advanced stock to arms merchants and (unknown to them) Rebel agents. These speeders are primarily used by the Rebel Alliance and private mercenary groups.
The Freerunner is the next
up in the Rebel CAV arsenal. It is armed with stripped down anti-personnel
and anti-vehicle batteries. And are equipped from anywhere from two to
four weapon batteries on a given vehicle, depending on its specific battlefield
assignment. Although each weapon is operated by an individual gunner, the
weapons can be linked together to save on manpower. The Freerunner features
an open-air cockpit, which allows increased visibility for the driver,
however, that feature also makes the driver a prime target and also limits
this vehicle's utility in certain atmospheric environments. Thus the open-air
cockpit is not exactly popular among the drivers or Rebel commanders. And
thus when ever possible, Rebel techs have enclosed the cockpit. These speeders
pack a terrific offensive punch. Freerunners are like medium tanks with
reasonable manoeuvrability that are decently armed and armoured.
