The Heavy Tracker is a tough vehicle, which features a strong, accurate, long-range cannon and is the most heavily armoured Rebel CAV in common use. This combat assault vehicle hugs the ground and searches out targets. As this vehicle presents a large and slow moving target and comes equipped with long-range targeting capabilities, the driver of this vehicle keeps it a good distance from the front lines. Although the Heavy Tracker is classified as an assault vehicle, it is more like a mobile scanning unit.

The Heavy Tracker is equipped with an advanced "omniprobe" sensor array and a long range comlink for relaying enemy positions from the front lines. The omniprobe is the Rebel Alliance's answer to the Galactic Empire's TIN (Target Identification Network). The omniprobe makes low-level scans which are keyed to a planet's gravitational centre. The omniprobe sensor beam literally "hugs" the ground, enabling it to scan out-of-direct-sight enemy movements. Using data provided by the omniprobe, the Heavy Tracker's gunners can single out targets from extreme distances and as a result there is no need for this vehicle to enter into close combat situations.
