The Sprint-class Medical Rescue Craft is employed for deep space disasters. Its shielding and hull armour were minimal, therefore they only offered basic protection. This craft comes equipped with a military grade sensor suite and a powerful engine package, which allows this ship to respond to distress calls and reach a disaster scene faster than most other rescue craft; since every second counts in a space disaster. While this ship is similar in appearance to our Gamma-class Assault Shuttle, the Med Runner's design and mission profile is significantly different. This ship is ideal for manoeuvring among battle debris as it is extremely fast and agile. While on the move, its sensor operators search for missing pilots or live crews trapped in starship wreckage.
Med Runners serve the basic
function of keeping patients alive until the craft reaches a more well
equipped medical facility. While the Med Runner is extremely useful, traveling
aboard one is a tormenting experience. To make room for medical bays,
sound baffles and inertial dampeners have been reduced in size, and consequently
making a trip on this craft a turbulent and loud journey. Med Runner pilots
are often jokingly called "howlrunners". The interior of the
Med Runner contains several small, well equipped medical bays. Emergency
trauma suites, while lacking bacta tanks, can stabilize critically injured
individuals or those suffering from exposure to vacuum. Despite the cramped,
uncomfortable and somewhat frightening conditions, these ships are an
essential part of the Rebel Alliance Fleet. |
