The Rebel Speeder Bike was originally designed as a civilian (Overracer) speeder bike, but has long since been modified by Rebel techs. Speeder bikes remain the Rebellion's scouting craft of choice, due to their high agility and swiftness which make them difficult targets. Their primary usages calls for battlefield scouting, probing, and if permitting raiding rear areas and eliminating enemy scouts. They are also employed as light reconnaissance patrols in front of a unit's main body, and for perimeter patrol around temporary bases. On the planet of Stend VI, the Rebels deployed a few operatives with these speeder bikes to assist in recruiting some of the swoop gangs, as well as to gain intelligence on the Dark Riders (Imperial Storm Commandos) unit. To increase the stealth of their scout bikes sensor bafflers, and passive sound dampers were added (to the engines) to dramatically reduce engine noise. Although radiostatic dampers are more effective, they come at the cost of reduced engine power and increased electromagnetic signature. Nonetheless, Rebel techs have removed all non-essential equipment: civilian stabilizers, high-altitude lifters, long-range receivers to reduce the Modified Overracer's electromagnetic signature. Known enthusiastically as "flying rocks" amongst Rebel scouts, these streamlined speeder bikes are a repulsorlift motor with a blaster and comlink. *After Endor* Four years after the debacle at Endor, the Rebel Speeder Bike continues to see service with the New Republic. The corvette FarStar was assigned six of these vehicles. |
