Note : SWE and AGSWU2 state SSD is 5 times more powerful than ISD. This is not possible, by stats, SSD has over 14.5 times more firepower than ISD. WEG, starwars.com and other sources refer SSD as Super-class, while sources such as BFCT#2 refer as Executor-class, meanwhile CL and ITWOSWT refer as Executor-class Star Dreadnought. All WEG sources and others too numerous to list incorrectly state 8,000 m length. BTM, NEGVV and SOTG (and formally starwars.com) state 12,800 m length. Starwars.com has revised length to 19,000 m. ITWOSWT and CL support by stating SSD is "almost 12 times as long" and "over 100 times more massive" than ISD. SSD length has been revised from the original 8,000 m to 12,800 m to now 19,000 m. SOTG contradicts itself on length. In background info it states "Eight times the length of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer (12,800 m)", yet stats lists 8,000 m length. BTM also contradicts itself on length. WotC+Super Star incorrectly states 12,000 m length and armed with heavy ion cannons. For its size SSD carries an unusually small number of fighters and ground equipment, especially when compared to SSSD and ESSD. BTM states alternative ground equipment configuration. NEGVV claims missile tubes were "designed for attacks on space stations." It incorrectly states 24 AT-ATs carried. EGVV incorrectly states 9 engines. GG3 and SESWTSB do not list all weapons, and give the heavy turbolaser batteries less range and damage. D***Pg 155 strangely states construction of SSD Executor "practically bankrupted the Empire." CL and ITWOSWT state over 5,000 turbolasers and ion cannons carried, and 2 pre-assembled garrison bases carried (most likely specific to the SSD Executor). Starwars.com maintains the original weapons count is the correct one. WotC+Starship Battles Preview 1 lists weapons: 2,000 Turbolasers, 2,000 Heavy Turbolasers, 250 Assault Concussion Missile Tubes (30 missiles each), 250 Heavy Ion Cannons, 500 Point Defence Laser Cannons and 40 Tractor Beams. However, this weapon count is incorrect, as it contradicts CL and ITWOSWT.

 

    The Super-class Star Destroyer through sheer terror and intimidation can conquer entire star systems without the need to unleash its massive firepower. After the tragedy of Yavin, Lord Vader urged the Emperor to order rush production of a new class of massive star destroyer. The resulting ships while wielding the combat power of a small fleet represent the unlimited power and resources held by our Emperor. The origin and the confusion surrounding the name of this great ship lies with the Imperial Navy. In order to cloak the true nature of this vessel from the Imperial Senate, the Imperial Navy reported this design to be a Super-class Star Destroyer in its budget requests, and going so far as to underreport its true size in order to conceal its function from oversight committees. Due this this, even though its official designation (Executor-class) was adjusted by the time the Executor was operational, the term SSD applied to all massive Star Destroyers could not be shaken.

    Effectively, one SSD is the equivalent to a fleet of ISDs; with some claiming that a single SSD is worth 20 ISDs. Due to their limited numbers, SSDs have been generally regulated to the command ship role, serving as mobile headquarters; controlling fleets in space and planetary operations. Only missions of great import and prestige garner the employment of a SSD. These gargantuan military instruments, representing the new philosophies of the Imperial Navy can absorb unfathomable sums of punishment and dish it back out. Ion cannons smaller than planet-based emplacements are ineffective against it. In short, it is considered the ultimate warship.

    One of the most famous SSDs, the Executor which leads the Imperial Death Squadron, is tasked with hunting down the Rebellion's leadership. Five weeks after it completed its six month shakedown, officially (as reported in Imperial Defence Daily), three more SSDs were scheduled for completion and commissioning within the next 16 months. Officially, by the Battle of Hoth, four SSDs were seeing service within the Imperial Navy. When Lord Vader just formed the Death Squadron, the first four SSDs were just beginning to gain acceptance with the admiralty. In his wisdom, the Emperor proposed that additional SSDs should roll off the drydocks as Imperial Naval budget and time permitted. Due to the unprecedented security surrounding the Fondor shipyards; a full military blockade with orders to destroy trespassers, closing of all civilian traffic to the system, the large number of flagships spotted in the system, and a number of new hyperspace lanes opened to the Fondor System to cope with the increased bulk freighter traffic from the Gandeal System; aroused the suspicions of free traders (and most likely the Rebellion) of a gigantic Imperial construction project (the SSD Executor). The exact number of SSDs completed before the Battle of Endor remains a military secret.

    Not all of these colossal man-o-wars were constructed with the same specifications. Depending on the circumstances of their construction and intended missions, some SSDs featured minor alterations in their armament, crew and troop configurations. SSDs such as the Terror featured multiple port (and most likely starboard) hanger bays, in addition to sporting a fully functional cloaking device. Interestingly, it appears much of the Terror's superstructure was open internally, for reasons unknown. All late production SSDs, with the SSD Intimidator being an example, were equipped with an additional shield tower that is placed on the ship's centreline. The Night Hammer, later renamed the Knight Hammer was constructed eight years after the tragedy at the Battle of Endor, and interestingly was plated with black stealth armour. Due its massively redundant automated command systems, it required only a relatively small crew of around 100,000. Its carnivorous hangers held thousands of fighters.

    Its "island" cityscape houses the inhabitable sections, as well as weaponry. Meanwhile, its ventral portion is occupied by engineering networks and superstructure. This vessel's fire control centre, equipped with 3-D monitors and holographic image maps, assigns targets to each individual battery. Also included here are the data server holding the target registry and electronic links maintenance. Its design rectifies one element lacking from the Imperial Star Destroyer design, raw material recycling facilities. Six detention blocks are reserved for crew discipline, with an additional ten high-security blocks to hold enemy prisoners. In some cases cells hold up to six prisoners. Furthermore, three of the cargo areas adjacent to the hangers used to receive bulk shuttles can sustain (complete with ventilation, water taps and food dispensers) up to a thousand prisoners. SSDs maintain at least 293 decks. In order to transverse this humongous vessel, transport tubes allow quick movement throughout the ship.

    With the discovery of ardanium on the planet of Questal, the possibility of the SSD became reality. Refined ardanium strengthens in the presence of radiation, forming a nearly impenetrable container for the fuel required to power enormous warships. Only a millimetre-thick coating of refined ardanium is required to line the fuel cells and engines. A collection of 13 massive engines propel this titan through the cold hard death of space. From engineering or hyperdrive auxiliary control, manual control of the hyperdrive systems can be taken. Additionally, the hyperdrives feature tamper alarms. It is possible to bypass the nav computer to hyperspace to another location.

    Mounted on top of the command tower are a pair of geodesic communication and deflection domes. These domes contain long-range scanners that feed targeting data to the weapons, hyperwave transceiver coils, and comm-scan. Jutting vertically from the domes are local area shield projector vanes. Between these domes is the tractor beam targeting array. The tower is a standard module that reflects KDY's design philosophy of "terror styling", and is employed in many warship designs by KDY. The command tower deliberately positioned in full view; this display is possible due to the SSD's incredibly mighty shields. Two-metre tall transparisteel viewports on the main bridge allow for a commanding view. From here the ship's autotargeting batteries can be controlled. In the event that the main bridge is lost, an auxiliary bridge exists to help regain control. A spacious ready-room as large as a VSD's command deck is directly connected to the bridge. It comes complete with its own food-processing stations, sleeping-quarters, escape pods for command-level personnel (which features heavier armour and no external identification), and backup systems.

    On the upper forward face of the command tower is a large semicircular compartment, which is the upper command lounge. Its viewpanes are double-shielded. The bridge features escape pod arrays, which are hidden behind panels that are equipped with explosive bolts to blow them away; they are accessible via tunnels. Life-pods are also included. Two decks above the bridge is the admiral's suites that feature its own escape pod. Directly below the bridge is the main navigation complex. Also found in the command tower is the main computer deck, inertial compensators and power generators, briefing rooms, officer's quarters, and officer's mess. Mounted on the forward face is the port (and most likely starboard) targeting range finders, and cosmic-ray detectors. High speed vacuum shafts allow maintenance droids to quickly transverse between stories. Surface panels on the neck support small radiators, antennae and the odd defensive weaponry. Heat sink panels are found on the flanks of the neck. At the base of the command tower is a docking point for smaller craft. In short, the command tower, which is equipped with an armoured hull exostructure is like a separate ship.

    SSD features a large number of small docking bays that are connected to the main hanger. An access corridor leads to a staging area. These hangers are of sufficient size to hold Gallofree Transports and Y-85 Titan Dropships. During the Battle of Endor, the Millennium Falcon somehow managed to enter the SSD Executor's main hanger. During that escapade, that ship fired its quad laser cannons and concussion missiles within the ship. The sum damaged caused by this manoeuvre is unknown, and did not contribute to the Executor's destruction. In the case of the Knight Hammer, a separate series of massive bays (at least 17) for TIE bombers are located in the far aft. Included with them are their own repair and maintenance slips. Separating these bays from the propulsion systems are thick bulkheads. In the event of sabotage, such as setting off all the ordnance of all the fully loaded TIE Bombers in some of the bays, cannot destroy the SSD, but rather cripples it as the engines are destroyed. Augmenting its planet-side capabilities are its three Pre-fabricated Garrison Bases, which account for approximately 10,000 of the crew.

*After Endor* In New Republic service, the Lusankya is currently under the command of General Wedge Antilles. For years after its capture, the New Republic officially maintained that this goliath had either been scrapped or cannibalised to repair smaller ships, as ordered by Mon Mothma. In reality, it was secretly being repaired, due the massive combat power it represented, and its ability to project political power anywhere in the Galaxy. It must be noted that the prices offered for components on the secondary commodities markets helped to give away this secret. A pair of New Republic crests, flanking near the command tower, both on the dorsal and ventral sides mar the warship. In its capacity, this vessel serves Rogue Squadron, and provides a wide variety and large quantity of starfighters for their use. Lusankya's crew complement is only 198,025, and carries 12,000 troops, along with 14,000 researchers. More than a warship, it is also a mobile research centre complete with labs (scientific and medical) and biocontainment areas, which are located in the bow. Additionally, its shields and hull have been reinforced. It is one of the most awesome vessels within the New Republic's arsenal of tyranny.

    In the time following the Battle of Endor, the Rebels learned much of the few weaknesses of the SSD. Although it must be noted, that the Rebels did obtain a large sum of data on the SSD prior to the completion of SSD Executor via their efforts to destroy it. Treacherous admirals attempting to thwart Lord Vader's official plan of action against the Rebellion, plotted to sabotage the Executor. The loyal Admiral Griff, operating under the ruse of being one of their number, provided the key data about the SSD in order to draw the Rebels out, a plan orchestrated by Lord Vader to capture Skywalker. Operating a SSD is phenomenally expensive. Warlord Zsinj would be hard pressed to operate two SSDs at once due to the expense.

    A year after the Battle of Endor, the SSD Guardian and three Imperial-class Star Destroyers participated in the Battle of Tantive V, in which that knowledge was unfortunately exploited. During that battle, the Rebels concentrated their attacks against the SSD's weapons and shields systems. Despite severe damage and losses, the Guardian, and only the Guardian managed to escape the jaws of death. For nearly two years the Guardian languished in orbit around the planet of Soullex, in the Fardon System due to a hyperdrive failure; far away from the greedy eyes of the New Republic. Although to New Republic Intelligence, she was not forgotten, since Admiral Drommel sent out sorties of Lambda Shuttles to acquire the required parts. Over eight years later, General Airen Cracken assigned Cryle Cavv and Sienn Sconn of the Special Acquisitions Unit to capture the SSD Guardian. It was one of the greatest coups in New Republic history. A year later, the ship was incorporated into the New Republic's 3rd Fleet.
