The T-21 Light Repeating Blaster is the most formidable single man-portable blaster in the Imperial arsenal. It unleashes sufficient firepower to effortlessly cut through personal armour, break down force fields, and penetrate armour plating found on many light combat vehicles, such as armoured landspeeders. In a matter of seconds, an experienced trooper can eliminate an entire enemy squad. This weapon is a common support weapon among the Imperial Army and Stormtroopers. Furthermore, this weapon due to its portability has also proven to be a favourite among Rebel squads, and continues to be issued to a few New Republic units.

Almost all Stormtrooper squads are issued with at least one T-21, and Imperial artillery sections usually have one T-21 assigned in order to cover the assembly of artillery pieces or heavy repeating blasters. The T-21 was frequently employed in the role of annihilating Imperial weapon emplacements and covering advancing infantry, by the Rebels. Compared to larger medium and heavy repeating blasters which require multiple crews and several minutes to assemble or break down, the T-21 with its belt-carried light tripod and 20 kilogram backpack generator can be readied in less than 30 seconds. Increased accuracy is offered by the light tripod when used. When partially extended the tripod turns the T-21 into a weapon excellent for sniper attacks, on the other hand if the tripod is fully extended the weapon becomes an emplacement.

Should the weapon to connected to the backpack generator, the fire rate is limited due to the backpack generator's weak cooling capability. However, if the T-21 is paired with an even bulkier generator for full automatic fire, as some military units do, requires a second trooper to watch over and carry the said generator. Sustained auto fire has been known to create a heat buildup sufficient to melt the T-21, and as a result gunners are advised to use gingerly controlled bursts. Near the mid section of this weapon is its targeting sensor/sighting chamber.
