The VGK-3 Shooting Star-class Starfighter is a high performance prototype that was originally being developed for the Empire by Koensayr, but was later stolen by Rebel agents some time before the Battle of Endor. Interestingly, it appears that Koensayr continued work on the design (for the Rebels) after its theft from the Empire. Shortly before the Battle of Endor, the VGK-3 was stolen from the Rebellion by a Rebel Infiltrator named Bryce Agoris, and Myrgaanti Shi-Iki – a freelance operative. As a result, the VGK-3 project has fallen behind schedule and most hopes for the New Republic to obtain these fighters have fortunately been dashed.

It is suspected that the VGK-3 is currently in poor shape as the two thieves lack the credits to properly maintain this fighter which they have extensively employed. This five winged design derives its name from its star-like shape when viewed from the forward quarter. Although this design is slow, it is sturdy and incredibly well armed; its proton torpedo launchers make it a threat to capital ships, while its aft ion cannons can ward off attacks from the aft quarter.
